On a moonless world controlled by fear, Lani stands apart, feeling none of it; she suffers an oppression others can't describe because of this difference and yearns for a fresh take on life. With her best friend and bodyguard, who happens to be a Minotaur, Lani sneaks out of the highly-controlled city of Ghal.
Beyond the walls Lani has to learn to survive in a completely different world full of Marauding robots, monsters, Primals, and unfamiliar environments. Even with all that, agents of terror from the city dog her steps, doing everything in their considerable power to bring her back. She must stay one step ahead or be taken back to where she is wanted and would be thrown into darkness for the rest of her days.
