When We Meet Again

Full Cast Drama Series

When We Meet Again is a radio drama/podcast series researched, written, performed and produced by MCS pupils and staff.

When We Meet Again draws on the striking parallels between the 'Phoney War' period from September 1939-May 1940 and our current circumstances – a period of waiting, with movement curtailed, foodstuffs disappearing from the shelves and normal life disrupted.

Beth is a 20-year-old university student. When coronavirus hits, her world rapidly and alarmingly contracts, until she is in complete isolation, holed up in her parents' house in a small Oxfordshire village. Terrified of loneliness and missing her friends, Beth uses social media to stay in touch with the outside world. But when she chances upon her grandmother's diary from 1939, Beth's horizons begin to expand… Peggy (who was a similar age to Beth in 1939) is thrown from a sheltered upbringing into the hurly-burly of life by the outbreak of war; joining the WAAF, meeting young men, and ultimately being recruited for intelligence work. Her neighbour Ronnie, aged 10, is beginning life as a chorister at Magdalen College School, while at the university, a group of friends navigate political loyalties and class tensions.
