Hazel Thornton comes from a long line of healers; her own abilities manifested at a young age. Her fully human, widowered father didn't know what to do with a magical toddler so she began spending a lot of time with her maternal grandmother, Rosemary Thornton. After school and weekends were usually spent at her nana's shop, called Marguerite's Garden or simply the Garden. There she learned both practical medical knowledge and magic that helps the paranormal community, like illusions, in addition to the healing that comes so naturally to her.
Unsurprisingly, Hazel chose to become a doctor and slogged her way through a human university and med school. Halfway through her residency, her best friend, Vincent Julia, called in a panic because Nana Rosemary had vanished without a trace.
Dropping everything, Hazel returned home to search for her nana and manage the Garden, which effectively is an apothecary and urgent care in addition to providing more standard witch services, only to discover that more people are going missing.
The only clues are disturbing dreams, a rune, and areas of dead magic.
